ABOUT SHUTE-TO-SHELFTM

The Shute-to-Shelf™ Ergonomic Library Returns System was developed as a response to concerns raised by the Australian Services Union O,H&S representative about the level of musculoskeletal and repetitive strain injuries suffered by staff whilst working in the library Returns area. These injuries were diagnosed as being mainly caused by the amount, weight and the manner in which the materials were processed. Compounding the situation was the fact that injured staff were often returned to the same unsafe workplace.

Working with an ergonomist and an ASU library committee, supported by a WorkCover grant, the award winning Shute-to-Shelf™ system was developed as the first manual handling system specifically designed for the Library Returns area. Over the last ten years, new technology has enabled improved equipment to be available for manual handling and Wharington is proud to have played a part in highlighting the need for better practices in this critical area of library management and staff safety.

With a commitment to continuous improvement, Wharington has a focus on using the latest technology to design and manufacture manual handling equipment that will increase efficiency in the workplace with minimum ergonomic impact on the staff.
